NEF Issues 14-Day Deadline to Edo for Compensating Families of Northern Travelers

NEF Issues 14-Day Deadline to Edo for Compensating Families of Northern Travelers  (Hunters that were burned)

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has expressed strong outrage regarding the murder of northern hunters in Uromi, Edo State, asserting that the North has reached its limit of tolerance and will no longer accept such violence, as reported by News360 Nigeria.

This stance was articulated by Professor Abubakar Jika Jiddere, the Forum's spokesperson.

In a statement released on Saturday, he remarked, “NEF is deeply shocked and saddened by the brutal, extrajudicial, and cowardly killings of innocent Northern hunters who were returning home to celebrate the conclusion of Ramadan and the Eid Kabir Sallah festival with their families in Uromi, Edo State. This atrocious act is entirely unacceptable, and we condemn it in the strongest possible terms.

“The North has endured numerous reckless actions from certain Southern regions of Nigeria in the past. This must cease immediately.

“We demand the arrest and prosecution of all individuals involved in the attack and the violent deaths of these innocent travelers. The NEF insists on a public trial for the offenders and those who facilitated the crime to ensure complete transparency and accountability.

“We also call for appropriate compensation to be provided to the victims' families, in accordance with the standards of their respective faiths.

“An unequivocal apology is required from both the people and authorities of Edo State, along with a commitment to prevent such barbaric acts from occurring in the future. The Edo State Government must issue a sincere apology to the North for this grievous attack on its citizens. The punishment of the offenders should be publicly witnessed to deter any future acts of violence.”

Additionally, the NEF urged the Edo State Government and the Federal Government to take decisive and visible actions to meet these demands within fourteen (14) days from the date of this statement.

“Failure to comply will compel the North to pursue all necessary measures to seek justice for its people,” it concluded.

The NEF further called on the Federal Government to ensure that justice is delivered to the victims and their families.
