Peter Obi's Statement About The Killings In Edo State

The recent reports regarding the murders of Northern travelers in Uromi, located in the Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, are profoundly distressing. Such acts of violence have become a tragic norm in our deteriorating society. These abhorrent actions have no place in our community now, just as they did not in the past. Every Nigerian, irrespective of their ethnic or regional identity, deserves the right to travel freely and safely throughout our country.

It has been reported that these individuals were accused of kidnapping, which led to their violent deaths at the hands of a mob. While it is essential to address security issues and combat criminal behavior, turning to extrajudicial actions only weakens the rule of law and perpetuates a cycle of violence. I commend the government for denouncing this incident and for launching an investigation.

Moreover, it is imperative that authorities also focus on the killings of Edo indigenes to ensure justice is served for everyone involved.

This tragic incident highlights the pressing need for improved security measures and greater public awareness to avert similar events in the future. Communities must work in partnership with law enforcement to ensure that justice is sought through lawful means rather than through illegal actions.

I offer my heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims. Let us unite in our efforts to create a society where peace, unity, and respect for human life are upheld.
