Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has ignited discussions online after delivering a heartfelt yet humorous ultimatum to his daughter, Valerie, in celebration of her 25th birthday.
In a post on his official social media account, the esteemed actor, recognized for his performances in iconic Nigerian films, took the opportunity to impart wisdom, encourage self-reflection, and provide guidance to his daughter, who is also affectionately known by her native name “Uloaku,” which translates to “House of Wealth.”
Kanayo urged Valerie to treat the day with seriousness, emphasizing it as a moment for “sober reflections” and encouraging her to assess her life by determining what to “copy, paste, and delete.” He also addressed a recurring concern in their relationship—his frequent absences due to work—and clarified that his travels stem from his ongoing success as an actor.
“My dear daughter, Uloaku, congratulations on your 25th birthday. From little Valerie to the future Madam Uloaku,” he expressed. “Your concern has always been that ‘you are always traveling, hardly at home.’ Uloaku, good actors travel because they are in demand. I am grateful to remain active and relevant. Please try to be patient with me.”
In a light-hearted yet pointed finale, Kanayo set a three-year timeline for his daughter to achieve one of three significant life goals: getting married, pursuing a PhD, or moving out of his home.
“In all these, please ensure that by 2027, you are either walking down the aisle, enrolling for your PhD, or leaving my house. Simply put,” he stated.
