Man Returns to Nigeria After 23 Years; Family Claims He is Insane to Seize His Assets
A Nigerian man, who had been residing in South Africa, returned to Nigeria after 23 years to reclaim property for which he had been sending financial support. Upon his arrival, however, his family took him to an Islamic cleric (Alfa), where he was confined and unjustly labeled as mentally unstable.
The individual, identifying himself as Bayo Salami, shared that he lives in Cape Town, South Africa, where he operates a business named Kuvuki Empire. He is also a prominent show promoter, having organized significant events for renowned Nigerian artists such as Davido, Wizkid, M.I., and Banky W. To substantiate his claims, he mentioned that he is accessible on social media platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube under his business name.
Bayo recounted that when he inquired about his properties upon his return, his family informed him that they were still under construction. Rather than dispute this, he requested to return to South Africa. However, his family insisted on taking him to an Alfa for prayers, assuring him it would bring divine blessings. Trusting their intentions, he complied. Upon arrival, the cleric directed him to a room, ostensibly for prayer, but unexpectedly locked him inside.
Inside the room, he discovered others who had been confined for over a year under dire conditions. Bayo was held against his will for 17 days. When asked about his survival, he revealed that his family occasionally provided him with food, sometimes as often as twice daily.
Regarding the reason for his confinement, his family claimed it was due to his smoking habits. Expressing his disbelief, he stated, “I have traveled to Dubai, where alcohol is prohibited, yet smoking is allowed. There is no prohibition against smoking in either the Quran or the Bible. I do not consume alcohol.”
